The Guardian
The Guardian, was demonstrably painted on Bamburgh Sands as Farne Island is clearly identifiable in the background.
It seems probable that this subject was that referred to as “On Bamburgh Sands” in Elwes’ list,
it possibly serving as a sub-title or indeed as the title of the original, which is in Sydney Art Gallery.
Russell Flint spent much of his time in and around Bamburgh and produced some wonderful paintings encapsulating the unique light across the beaches.
