The Dubious Bernini

The Dubious Bernini – The model here is Maggie- Maggie with pigtails – Maggie with long hair, and the location, a vault beneath a chateau in the valley of the Drome at Vacheres, where he painted among other subjects “The Spanish Magazine”.
This appeared in the retrospective exhibition at the Royal Academy and was due to be published by Frost and Reed, but the plan never reached fruition.
It was also at this chateau that he came across a servant girl who really was Spanish, (it was her magazine presumably) and whose presence prompted him to paint “The Unexpected Spaniard”.
