Two Models
Two Models, it is frequently assumed, particularly by makers of films, that the painter of a group of figures poses and paints all the persons portrayed in his composition at the same time.
This seldom happens.
“A Canadian friend had a watercolour of mine with two girls in it apparently talking to each other. An American acquaitance visited him, saw the picture,
thought the two girls ‘just wonderful’ came to Europe, called on me and wormed the model’s names and addresses out of me. He called on each and learnerned
to his amazement that neither had the faintest idea who the other was! That was to him, absurd. Hadn’t he seen them talking to each other in my pictures?”
I would assume that the two models were, Cecilia Green and Ray Fuller. The back drop looks to be set in Russell Flint’s Campden studio.
The original watercolour painting was an exhibit in the Royal Academy Exhibition; 1962 Retrospective
Published by The Medici Society in 1960.
The edition size of one thousand is surprisingly high; however toady a large percentage of the edition will be lost, damaged or in poor condition, making the ones that remain, even more sought after.
