Retreat from the Sun, one of the most sought after of the ‘cool interior’ genre, this shows two studies of Cecilia painted in the studio,
inserted against the undistinguished background of a French barn.
An outstanding example of a fine picture formed from the simplest ingredients, it was hung in the Royal Academy’s summer exhibition 1960.
