Anne-Marie by the Loire, the Loire is one of the longest rivers in France,
It was also one of Sir William’s favourite places, particularly as a rest place en route to Dordogne and the south of France.
Helen was the model, and the style in this painting is quite reminiscent of his early Scottish and Northumberland lake and beach studies.
