In a Burgundian Granary
In a Burgundian Granary, the wonderful light that has been captured in this painting is perhaps one of Russell Flint’s finest.
Sunlight comes streaming through the door, and Cecilia’s pink dress on the right, shows the most vibrant textures of the finest silk.
Burgundy is a historical region in east-central France.
It’s famous for its Burgundy wines as well as pinot noirs and Chardonnay, Chablis and Beaujolais.
The area has many canals and its share of grand châteaux, some of which are now invevitably luxury hotels.
The capital is Dijon, well known for its mustard, a huge building known as Palace of the Dukes, where the Musée des Beaux-Arts was established in 1787.
“The walls of this old Granary were honeycombed with recesses in which while I was painting,
the most industrious hens I ever came across, laid eggs with hennish outcries of pride.”
William Russell Flint.
